Clubs and Societies

The Parish has many thriving clubs and societies catering for a diverse range of interests:

The Failand Society

The Failand Society is a group of sociable residents from across the local area who meet regularly throughout the year.  There is a core programme of events in Failand Village Hall with a series of talks and entertainment – and the bar is open!  In recent years we have had a wide variety of presenters such as Martin Hogg talking about Artificial Intelligence,  George Byas on his experience “Living with Prehistoric Man in Ethiopia”, Pauline Alvis from Lye Cross Farm on  “Cheese Making” and a Gardeners’ Question Time followed by an Open Gardens event in the village.  In addition we have an Annual Dinner, a Summer Party, walks, wine tastings and a Christmas Quiz with supper.

Membership is £5 a year which includes attendance at the presentations.   Attendance by non-members is £3.  Other events incur a charge to cover costs.  During the Covid-19 restrictions we are continuing to run a programme of talks via “Zoom”.  So far we have learned about the work of the Avon Wildlife Trust, had a very entertaining Christmas Quiz and been taken on a tour of Namibia with some wonderful photographs taken by one of our members.  Early in 2021 we are looking forward to Sicilian Wine Tasting and a talk on William Tyndale.  For more information please click on this link to https://www.failandsociety.co.uk

Failand Drama Circle:

Based at Failand Village Hall, this group aims to promote amateur theatre. Typically the group stages 3 productions per year, a play and 2 musicals, and holds a number of club nights and social activities. A warm welcome is offered to those interested in performing, helping backstage, directing or joining as a social member.  For more information, please see the Failand Hall Broadsheet and Failand Hall Notice Boards.

The Failanders' Club:

The Club was founded on Wednesday 12 February 1986 by 17 retired residents of Failand and now has over 60 members who meet on the second Wednesday of each month for coffee, lunch or occasional outings. Membership of this friendly club costs £1 per year. Details of monthly activities and contact information are found in the Parish Magazine and the Failand Hall Broadsheet.

Failand Women's Institute:

Failand WI was started in 1947 and over the years has proved a valuable source of friendship, fellowship and fun for all the ladies who have been or are still associated with the organisation.
Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month (with the exception of August) in Failand Village Hall commencing at 7:30, with attendance by a speaker. Light refreshments are also served.
Outings and events are organised throughout the year and new members are very warmly welcomed.  For more information, please see the Parish Magazine.
