Village Agent for Community Connect                                             November 2016

Community Connect is a service for people aged over 50, and promotes independence and choice by helping them access services through the provision of information, advice and support.  In North Somerset, it is delivered by Curo in partnership with the West of England Rural Network.

The service runs information, advice and social events (previously known as community cafes) that allow people to talk to a member of the team, local councillors and trained advisers.  You can learn more from the Community Connect newsletterleaflet, flyer and website.  You can also contact Community Connect if you wish to volunteer your services.

The aims of Community Connect are to

  • reduce social isolation by providing opportunities for people to be more active in their community
  • support existing groups, and help form new ones
  • provide older people with the opportunity to have their say on current and future services
  • provide information, advice and help to access services, support and opportunities locally

Information is available face-to-face, over the telephone and by email

The Community Connect local Village Agent for Wraxall and Failand is Sarah Friend.  She can be contacted on:

"My name is Sarah Friend, and I am the Village Agent for your community.  As a Village Agent, having come from a rural background myself, I understand that the needs and wishes of people living in rural areas may be different to those in urban communities.  My role is to help all those over the age of 50 to access information and advice to allow them to remain living independently within the community.  My aim is to listen and work with those who need my help to achieve these wishes.

"I can help with all sorts of issues that you may have, from transport to medical appointments, support for carers, fire safety checks, advice on unwanted callers and scams, claiming for benefits, help with mobility, to helping you find activity groups so that you can socialise with others.

"If you would like advice on anything please call me on 07422-078548 or 01275-888803 (office) or email me at sarah.friend@curo-group.co.uk

"I look forward to helping and working with you in the community."

The Village Agent service, provided by the West of England Rural Network - or WERN as it is better known, is part of Community Connect, in partnership with Curo, and is funded by North Somerset Council.
